Where to attend Anzac Day ceremonies in Subiaco

Last year, we commemorated our returned and fallen service people from our driveways, as the global pandemic prevented gatherings. This year, we are lucky enough to be able to attend Anzac Day events again, as marches, commemorative services and beloved games of two-up are revived across Perth. Here is what you need to know about Anzac Day events in Subiaco.

There will be two commemorative services on Sunday April 25 across the City this year, one in Subiaco and one in Shenton Park. For those looking to attend the Subiaco service, there will be a parade starting at 7.50am, assembling at the Subiaco Post Office and marching down Rokeby Road to the Fallen Soldier’s Memorial in Rankin Gardens. The service will then commence in front of the Memorial at 8.10am. A morning tea will follow at the City Administration Centre from 8.40am.

A special, free exhibition will be showing at the Subiaco Museum this Anzac Day, with artifacts and local stories about the contributions that the community made during wartime, both on the home front and overseas.

This service and following events will be wheelchair accessible and parking will be available on Rokeby Road, and in the surrounding streets.

Shenton Park will be holding an earlier memorial service, with parade congregating at the corner of Kings Street and Onslow Road at 6.50am. The parade will march along Onslow Road to the Shenton Park Community Centre, where the commemorative service will commence at 7.10am. All are welcome to stay after the ceremony to enjoy a morning tea held at the Community Centre.

Wheelchair access is available at the Shenton Park location as well, and parking can be found along Onslow Road and surrounding streets.

For those of us that cannot make it to organised Anzac Day services this year, the stay-at-home driveway memorial initiative, Light Up The Dawn, is happening again this year. To participate, tune in to ABC Radio, 6PR or 6IX from 6am to follow their special ANZAC Day broadcasts with program including The Ode, The Last Post, The Minute’s Silence and Rouse.
