Bob Hawke College to double in size with new dance, music and media studios

Following the completion of stage one construction and the official opening of Bob Hawke College in February 2020, the school is now set to double in size.

Interestingly, the expansion has a clear arts focus, much like the neighbouring Perth Modern School where Bob Hawke attended. The plans call for a performing arts centre, dance and visual arts studios, music rooms and two state-of-the-art media studios to be installed.

Other additions include a roof terrace and outdoor landscaped areas for out-of-the-box learning (literally), and more general classrooms to double its capacity to 2000 students.

Bob Hawke College originally opened to year seven students only, but the school’s expansion will allow for a full senior school, from year’s seven to twelve.

Continuing on from stage one, PACT Construction will be handling the build. Their performance in stage one earned them multiple awards, such as the 2020 Master Builders Excellence in Construction and the Major Project Contractor Award 2020 from the Department of Finance.

Stage two construction is estimated to cost $57.6 million and will commence in April 2021, due to be unveiled at the start of the 2023 school year. See the full timeline here.
