Come down to the Xmas Frolics in Subi, featuring an elf scavenger hunt, Christmas carols karaoke and balcony opera

Charmingly called ‘Xmas Frolics in Subi’, the first Subiaction Subi Christmas street party in on Thursday, December 10, from 5-8pm. Incorporating Rokeby Road’s top spots and hidden events dotted through the laneways of Subi, here’s a little peek into what you can expect – all totally free, as always!

Christmas Elf Trail

Rokeby Road will abound with six mischievous elves hiding in shop windows, waiting to be found by the kids and jolly parents of Subi. Try to find all six first to score yourself an elf to put on your shelf. Print off one of the entry forms to note down where you found the elves, then return it to the pop-up shop at 83 Rokeby Road before midday on Dec 17 to win. And of course, make sure to tag us if you find a hidden elf!

Pop-up Opera

To kick off the evening, DivaLicious opera singer Penny Shaw will be gracing us with a light opera and Christmas show from heritage balconies like Doyle Court. Expect the sweet sounds of soprano to engulf the twists and turns of Subi’s laneways.

Jazz at the Train Station

For those arriving on the train, the City of Subiaco are putting on Christmas jazz band and setting up a special Christmas arbour. Subiaco Rotary Club will be there handing out programs to help you plan out your evening. Head down from around 5pm to catch the free jazz concert!

Get onboard the Santa Express

From 5pm, Santa will be onboard Ruby the tram, who in true Christmas style will be dressed up as the Santa Express, transporting party-goers from the train station to Bagot Road all evening. From 6-7pm, Santa will be in Forrest Walk right next to Subi’s famous Christmas tree to meet the kids. Bring your wish list!

Salvation Army Christmas Carols

If you’re into the gift of giving, Barker Road will be home to a Christmas giving tree, where you can donate to the Salvation Army who will be performing carols from the balcony.

Fire Trucks & Kids Art at Brew-Ha

The iconic Brew-Ha will be serving up coffees and cakes later than usual especially for the occasion, with the area also hosting kids’ art classes by the Quirky Cactus. Plus, Daglish firies have been kind enough to donate their time and fire truck. Between 6.15-7pm, kids will be free to take a behind-the-scenes tour inside the fire trucks, accompanied by the fire fighters of course. To add to the action, the Subiaco Primary School Choir will be performing some festive tunes.

Dance Performances

Subi’s WA Performance School will be exhibiting the best of their dance troupes, with a performance blending four different dance styles. Head to Forrest Walk between 5-6pm to catch them, and keep an eye out for their acrobatic flair.

Book Signings by Red Dog Vet Dr Rick Fenny

If you don’t know him from Desert Vet, you might know Dr Rick Fenny as the vet for WA’s famous Red Dog, the lone wandering dog of the 1970s. Dr Fenny will be manning a marquee at Forrest Walk for the evening, selling signed copies of his new book Red Dog Vet.

Christmas Lights and an Italian Piazza

True to their electrical roots, the Hiddlestone family will be setting up their lane with strings of stunning crystals to compliment the permanent light display. Guests walking through the lane will be greeted with a secret outdoor cafe serving rustic Italian food and music. This one will be on throughout the night!

Tango Performances and Christmas Carols Karaoke

From 6pm, you can expect a tango performance from Juan Rando Dance Academy just outside the Regal Theatre. Rounding out the evening is the Christmas Carols Karaoke in the Regal foyer. Head down from 7pm to hear, or sing, one-too-many renditions of ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ by Mariah Carey. The evening will be hosted by Cabaret MC Sylvia Sippl, who will most likely be belting out a few numbers herself!

This exciting new Rokeby Road Christmas party is organised by Subiaction and proudly supported by See Subiaco. Save the date!
