Tom Rowohlt, son of Jude and Jeff Rowohlt who have managed the Daglish Tennis Club for many years, has grown up playing tennis at ‘his backyard’ club. As a boy he was coached by Ross Gerrans, whose son Peter has taken over as Club Professional.

Now 31, Tom has captained the Men’s Open pennant team for 13 years including the team winning the pennant flag in three of the years. The Club has been, and still is, a social hub for Tom and his friends, who often run various social and charity tournaments, the proceeds being donated to Beyond Blue.

“When I was growing up, the tennis club was a hive of activity on Sunday afternoons with the locals coming together for social tennis. Fast forward 25 years, it’s nice that it continues to be available for use by the local community,” says Tom.

Tom continued,

“Playing competition and social tennis followed by barbecues has been part of our life. How lucky was I as a kid to be able to walk out of the back gate and have grass courts to play on and be with friends and neighbours! It’s such a great environment. I have been playing here for almost my whole life and now I look forward to my three-month old baby growing up around the Club too. I hope he will want to play tennis, but he has cricket blood in him too!”
