Subiaco has an eclectic mix of recycled boutiques, from op-shops like Good Sammy’s to high-end curated vintage at Kubank Designs. Here’s a few to check out.
Lucy in Disguise, Rokeby Road
Lucy in Disguise first graced a small laneway off Rokeby over a decade ago and since then expanded to meet growing demand. Owned by Subi local Erina Millstead, the boutique sells vintage clothing and rents out costumes. Lucy in Disguise offers up pieces from virtually every era in modern history, from the 1920s to the early 2000s (yes, that’s vintage now) and caters for all genders. Their current collection includes extraordinary vintage wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses for the on-trend, cost-savvy bride, and a range of records, cassettes and antique accessories. The store has a wonderful sense of community and each piece has its own unique history.

Kubank Designs, Rokeby Road
The longest standing establishment on our list, Kubank Designs has been run by husband and wife team Pam and Barry Kubank for over thirty years. Genuine vintage garments sourced from Melbourne join Pam’s self-made designs in the boutique to create an eclectic mix of old and new. Vintage items typically ranges from $45-$70, with high-quality pieces on offer such as coats from the 1940. Most of Pam’s design orders are for custom designed ball dresses and wedding gowns, often made from vintage fabrics and inspired by retro styles. Custom design prices typically range between $100-$600, depending on the chosen fabric, and wedding dresses cost up to $1200, a small price to pay considering the price of a wedding dress off the rack.

RSPCA Reloved Fashion, Rokeby Road
Bringing an exemplary shift to Perth’s op-shop scene, RSPCA’s Reloved Fashion stands out from the rest of the charity shops, with all funds raised going to RSPCA. The Reloved shopping experience is unlike any other, with organised and colour coded shelves featuring classic and contemporary clothing brands such as Review, Cue, and Witchery to name a few. The curated selection means prices are a little higher than classic op-shops, but the easy shopping experience is worth it. All proceeds go towards rescuing and rehabilitating animals in need, giving them an opportunity to be “reloved” by their new family, just like the recycled clothes.

Good Sammy’s, Rokeby Road
Good Sammy’s in Subiaco is extremely popular thanks to their massive Bridal selection as well as their Gold Seal collection offering designer labels such as Dior, Christian Louboutin, Alannah Hill and Lise Howe. Bizarrely, they also have a hefty stock of Yamaha guitars. It’s important to check back weekly as the store receives stock regularly and the most popular items go fast. Good Sammy’s also run a program to create employment pathways for people with disabilities complete with a mentor program, so it’s an all-round good organisation to support.
