Whether it be for katsu chicken, a bento box or sushi, there are plenty of Japanese restaurants open for lunch in Subiaco. There are plenty of dine-in restaurants and for those in a rush, there is an abundance of takeaways where you can grab and go.

Edo – Japanese BBQ Restaurant

Located on the corner of Barker and Rokeby Road, Edo Japanese BBQ Restaurant has been serving up the best of Japanese cuisine for over a decade. Their menu includes donburi (rice bowls), sushi rolls, fresh sashimi and ramen, as well as bento boxes.

On weekdays, be sure to visit them before 2.30pm and consider the lunch bento special: a protein, salad, miso, sushi and rice for $11.90. For some extra antioxidants, add a green tea to your meal for free. Their specialty is Teppanyaki BBQ, a traditional Japanese ritual where the chef barbeques your meal right before your eyes. Sadly, this is only available for dinner after 5pm.

Today, they offer a variety of fresh ready-to-go sushi, udon noodle soup, gyoza and a wide range of teriyaki dishes. The most popular lunch takeaway is their Japanese curry, but be sure to get in quick as it flies out the door fast at lunchtime!

Zen Japanese

Hidden in the carpark behind Subiaco’s Dome is Zen Japanese, which has been serving traditional Japanese dishes since 2008. Chef Hideki has 32 years of experience as a master Japanese chef and in an effort to bring his Japanese origins to Perth, he has placed a family name plate at the entrance of the restaurant to make customers feel as if they are a special guest in his home.

The popular takeaway menu includes a lunch special of $12 bento boxes with rice, edamame beans and pickles with a choice of teriyaki chicken, beef or tofu, spicy fried chicken or chicken katsu. If overwhelmed for choice, their recommendation is any of their beef options as they tend to be the most popular!

Moe Sushi

Next time you’re doing your grocery shopping at Farmer Jacks, or visiting the newsagency at Subiaco’s Crossways complex, make sure to pick up some lunch at Moe Sushi. Their sushi is always of the highest standard as they source all their fresh seafood daily, refusing to use frozen seafood. Whether it be rice paper rolls, sushi or one of their hot fusion meals, such as the popular spicy noodles, their small store is a quick and easy stop off for a Japanese inspired meal.

Moe Sushi is equally popular for lunch and an early takeaway dinner. If opting for sushi, the crowd favourites are the chicken and avocado or tuna with cucumber, while the chicken spicy noodles is the go-to hot meal.
